Upgrading to 7.1 (Windows)
Upgrading to the current version of Eudora from your older Eudora is easier than you might think. Simply-
- Download 7.1
- Install 7.1 into the same directory as your current Eudora
- OPTIONAL: Direct Eudora to store your mail and settings in another directory
- Run 7.1 - make sure it has found your old mail and settings
Step Two
Make certain that you install Eudora into the exact same directory that your old Eudora resides. The Eudora installer will look on your hard drive and install into the folder it thinks is your Eudora directory. In our screenshot above, it will install into the directory C:\Eudora.

|
OPTIONAL: Direct Eudora to store your mail and settings in another directory
The Eudora installer gives you the option to specify a different data directory than the program directory. Meaning: you have the option to have your mailboxes, address books, and settings stored elsewhere. Most users don't need this option - the exception being Windows 2000 users who do not have Administrator priviliges.
If you're not certain, go ahead and install into the User Application Data Folder.

|
Step Three
Launch Eudora from the shortcut that it created on your desktop - or from Start: Programs: Eudora.

If Something Goes Wrong
If you launch your new Eudora application and it doesn't immediately find your old mail, address books, and settings - check the following things.
- Did you start up Eudora from an old shortcut? Try launching Eudora directly from the Start Menu. Or go through My Computer and launch the program directly from the executable.
- In the optional step above, did you specify a Custom data directory? If you specified the wrong data directory, Eudora will not find your previous mail. Try re-installing Eudora and don't specify a Custom data directory.
- Go to Start: Find: Files or Folders and do a search on your computer for the file In.mbx. Any files that appear will be in directories that Eudora was installed into. Try re-installing Eudora again, but this time into the directories that In.mbx was found in.

Making Your Eudora 7.1 Look like your old Eudora
Some of the visual changes in the new Eudora 7.1 may be disconcerting at first, but there are changes you can make to modify the user-interface to make it more familiar for you.
